Outpost was born in 2025 as I looked back on the previous 17 years of working in design teams and tried to figure out what the next step in my career was going to be. I knew that what I loved doing was creating environments in which brilliant design work happens, and whilst I’d been working at that daily over all of my time working in-house, I had also begun speaking to people about their own challenges in doing that same stuff in their organisations, at conferences, in coaching conversations, and in casual chats with industry peers, I sensed that there was a way to create that same impact, but perhaps at a larger scale, and with some more flexibility and freedom than is afforded by being an in-house design leader.

And so outpost is kind of the conglomeration of all of that stuff - a bunch of ways in which I can keep contributing towards the world of design, and helping create great jobs for designers. From early-stage advisory work and fractional leadership, through to tailored 1:1 coaching, I think the services bundled under the outpost banner represent a good set of tools for me to wield in response to what design and designers need in 2025.

This is also an experiment. And a bit of a leap into the unknown, but that’s exciting and I am looking forward to jumping into it with some great partnerships already lined up.

I hope if you’ve read this far it’s because you also think that me and outpost can help you and your business, or your team, or your career - and if that’s the case, do get in touch.
